Not mine but Thine

The title to my journal entries is usually based on the subject matter in the Word portion. However, in this case, it is based on what I wrote in the Personal section instead.

Worship: To God Be the Glory

1 To God be the glory, great things he has done;
so loved he the world that he gave us his Son,
who yielded his life an atonement for sin,
and opened the lifegate that we may go in.

Refrain:
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord; let the earth hear his voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord; let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father through Jesus the Son,
and give him the glory; great things he has done.

2 O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,
to every believer the promise of God;
the vilest offender who truly believes,
that moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

Refrain

3 Great things he has taught us, great things he has done,
and great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
but purer and higher and greater will be
our wonder, our gladness, when Jesus we see.

Refrain

Psalter Hymnal, (Gray)

Personal:

Yesterday all my work was lost. I’m not sure why. Earlier that day, I had prayed about pride. Perhaps God was dealing with it by humbling me in the loss of my work. Maybe I felt it was too much MY work. Now I have finished a new version of the poem I wrote yesterday. It is longer, and I believe God's hand was in all this. To God, be the Glory! I don’t have time to dig into the word like I want. I wrote somewhat extensively yesterday and want to give as much time as I can to this passage. May God bring to mind what I wrote before and even more! Amen.

Word:

Ps 22:12-18

12 Many bulls surround me;
strong bulls of Bashan encircle me.
13 Roaring lions tearing their prey
open their mouths wide against me.
14 I am poured out like water,
and all my bones are out of joint.
My heart has turned to wax;
it has melted away within me.
15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd,
and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth;
you lay me in the dust of death.
16 Dogs have surrounded me;
a band of evil men has encircled me,
they have pierced my hands and my feet.
17 I can count all my bones;
people stare and gloat over me.
18 They divide my garments among them
and cast lots for my clothing.
NIV

Vers. 14-18. They pierced my hands and my feet. –

“Our Lord's passion: -- The great mystery of the passion of our Lord is one which in all its fullness the human mind cannot comprehend. In what manner His sufferings purchased our redemption, and what was the precise nature of those sufferings, are points which we shall in vain attempt to ascertain or demonstrate by words, however forcible; but that Christ died for our sins, and that we are redeemed by His precious blood, are amongst the many declarations of Scripture which place beyond all doubt the truth that the sufferings of Christ were an atonement for our sin.

I. THE SUFFERINGS OF CHRIST AS MAN. Every kind of pain tortured His body. The closing scenes of His life mark Him most conspicuously as "the Man of Sorrows."

II. THE SUFFERINGS WHICH CHRIST ENDURED AS THE SON OF GOD. The sins of the whole world oppressed Him. Sin when duly felt is a heavy burden. How heavy, then, must have been the weight of the sins of the whole world! How wondrous is the outpouring of such love on the part of Jesus and of God! Let the memory of it guard us from attempting to extenuate sin, or in any way making light of it. And when we are called upon to suffer, let the example of our Lord's meekness and humility be that which we shall follow.”
