Ps 28:6-29:1
6 Praise be to the Lord,
for he has heard my cry for mercy.
7 The Lord is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in him, and I am helped.
and I will give thanks to him in song.
8 The Lord is the strength of his people,
a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.
9 Save your people and bless your inheritance;
be their shepherd and carry them forever.
A psalm of David.

8 The LORD is their strength, and he is the saving strength of his anointed.
9 Save thy people, and bless thine inheritance: feed them also, and lift them up for ever.

7 The Lord is my strength and my shield;
in him my heart trusts, and I am helped;
my heart exults,
and with my song I give thanks to him.
8 The Lord is the strength of his people;
he is the saving refuge of his anointed.
9 Oh, save your people and bless your heritage!
Be their shepherd and carry them forever.
ESV |
I.  Minor Key: vv. 1-5
            A. Pleas (vv. 1- 3)
1.     Hear Me! - v. 1
2.     Have Mercy! – v. 2a
3.     Help! – v. 2b
            B. Imprecation (vv. 4-5)
II. Major Key: vv. 6-9
            A. Praise (vv. 6-8)
            B. Supplication (v. 9)
The voice of despair (vv. 1-2) has turned into a voice delight (vv. 6-7). David’s dirge changes into a dance.
11 You turned my wailing into dancing;you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,12 that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent.Lord my God, I will praise you forever.Psalm 30:11-12 NIV
Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with timbrel and harp.Psalm 149:3 NIV
If verses 1-2 are from the depths, then verses 6-7 are surely from the heights.
For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock.Psalm 27:5 NIV
He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.Psalm 40:2
From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.Psalm 61:2
For great is thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell.Psalm 86:13
And in all this let us not forget that blessings are bi-directional as seen in the use of the word Barac (to bless). Not only does the greater give a blessing upon the lesser, but the lesser returns the blessing in the form of grateful praise and thanksgiving.
9 And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to him who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying,
11 “Worthy are you, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they existed and were created.”
Rev. 4:9-11
Worship in Witness:
And our response to God’s blessing is bi-directional as well. It begins internally, then it exudes externally.  The measure of our gratitude is revealed in the passion with which we respond. Note the responses of David were anything but tepid!
David’s internal response: “My heart leaps for joy” (v 7c NIV)
David’s external response: “I burst out in songs of thanksgiving” (v 7d NLT)
Question: What is the temperature of my reaction to the Lord’s blessings? Am I even aware when He blesses me? Do I remember and “count my blessings?” Does my heart dance? Does my mouth erupt with words of praise? Do I bless the Blesser?
Not nearly enough I am afraid. And not often enough with the gusto which David displays. Though I have danced a time or two and even literally “jumped for joy!”
Have you?

Worship in Song: Mourning Into Dancing by the Bowling Family
It's been raining for so long
I barely remember when the sun was bright, and the world was right
I've cried tears I didn't know I had
Some nights I just held on and prayed for dawn
God has promised me this, One day the clouds will lift
Chorus
He said He would turn my mourning into dancing
He said He would turn my sorrow into joy
His promise is that every day His mercy will be new
and I believe that He will do Just what He said He would do
So let this storm do what it will
Gonna keep trusting God is in control
I will rest my soul
and I'll be standing when the storm is passed
I'll see His glory come when this is done
I know He'll do what He says so I will not forget
Chorus
He said He would turn my mourning into dancing
He said He would turn my sorrow into joy
His promise is that every day His mercy will be new
and I believe that He will do Just what He said He would do
When it seems all hope is lost
I will seek His face because
Chorus
He said He would turn my mourning into dancing
He said He would turn my sorrow into joy
His promise is that every day His mercy will be new
and I believe that He will do Just what He said He would do
He would do
He'll do what He said He would do
I barely remember when the sun was bright, and the world was right
I've cried tears I didn't know I had
