What will you do?

Worship: To God Be the Glory by Fannie Crosby; Shout to Lord by Darlene Zschech

To God Be the Glory

To God be the glory, great things He has done;
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin,
And opened the life gate that all may go in.

Refrain
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father, through Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory, great things He has done.

O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,
To every believer the promise of God;
The vilest offender who truly believes,
That moment from Jesus, a pardon receives.

Refrain

Great things He has taught us, great things He has done,
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see.

Refrain

"Shout To The Lord"

My Jesus, my Savior,
Lord, there is none like You;
All of my days
I want to praise
The wonders of Your mighty love.

My comfort, my shelter,
Tower of refuge and strength;
Let every breath, all that I am
Never cease to worship You.

Shout to the Lord, all the earth,
Let us sing
Power and majesty, praise to the (King);
Mountains bow down (mountains bow down) and the seas will roar
At the sound of Your name.

I sing for joy at the work of Your hands,
Forever I'll love You, forever I'll stand,
Nothing compares to the promise I have in You.

My Jesus, my Savior,
Oh, Lord there is nothing like You;
All of my days
I want to praise
The wonders of Your mighty love.

You're my comfort (my comfort), and my shelter, yes (my shelter),
You're my tower of refuge and strength;
Let every breath, and all that I am
Never cease to worship You.

Shout to the Lord, all the earth,
Let us sing
Power and majesty, praise to the King;
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar
At the sound of Your name.

I sing for joy at the work of Your hands,
Forever I'll love You, forever I'll stand,
Nothing compares to the promise I have in...

Shout to the Lord, all the earth,
Let us sing, yeah,
Power and majesty, praise to the King;
Mountains bow down (mountains bow down and the seas will roar)
At the sound of Your name.

I sing for joy at the work of Your hands,
Forever I'll love You, forever I'll stand,
Nothing compares to the promise I have in You...
(Nothing compares to the promise I have in You...)
Oh, nothing compares to the promise I have in you.

Personal: Another day where I did not get as far as I wanted. Neglected to do things I wanted to do, such as call my kids about things going on in their lives, and sending out a check to a friend for a book he wrote. I just spent time fixing the slice I put in a copper pipe behind my washer when I was trying to find where the leak was coming from when I did my wash. Instead, I made another leak. I also spent a lot of money today for a hospital bill for my wife, shoes for me, and for dinner with my daughter, her husband, and my grandkids. I wasted time on e-mails, and I could not come up with a second praise song for a while. So here I am, almost at the end of the day, feeling rattled and not relaxed. Lord calm my spirit and fill me with Your Spirit as I enter into Your Word. Amen!

Word:

Ps 22:25-23:1
25 From you comes my praise in the great congregation;
my vows I will perform before those who fear him.
26  The afflicted shall eat and be satisfied;
those who seek him shall praise the Lord!
May your hearts live forever!

27 All the ends of the earth shall remember
and turn to the Lord,
and all the families of the nations
shall worship before you.
28 For kingship belongs to the Lord,
and he rules over the nations.

29 All the prosperous of the earth eat and worship;
before him shall bow all who go down to the dust,
even the one who could not keep himself alive.
30 Posterity shall serve him;
it shall be told of the Lord to the coming generation;
31 they shall come and proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn,
that he has done it.
ESV
Ps 22:25-23:1

25 From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly; before those who fear you will I fulfill my vows. 26 The poor will eat and be satisfied; they who seek the Lord will praise him — may your hearts live forever! 27 All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him, 28 for dominion belongs to the Lord and he rules over the nations.
29 All the rich of the earth will feast and worship; all who go down to the dust will kneel before him — those who cannot keep themselves alive. 30 Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord. 31 They will proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn — for he has done it.
NIV

I have struggled with these verses, I confess. I have spent hours poring over commentaries. Some were helpful, and others leaving much to be desired. Perhaps they struggled too. The problem is that each comes to these passages with a particular eschatological framework in place, as well as certain theological assumptions. I will try to avoid these as best as possible, but it is impossible to avoid them entirely.

Let me begin by observing, as others have, that this psalm begins in the darkness of despair with cries of anguish from one individual. However, it ends in bright glory with praise and worship and proclamation on the lips of many. The crowd of both Jew and Gentile (mortal enemies at this time) that surrounded and mocked our Lord gives way to a vast congregation (Jew and Gentile as one in the Church). These will magnify Yahweh(vs.26-27) and declare the righteousness of Adonai(Vs. 30-31).

Notice the multitude of wills that follows the “will I” of verse 25. There we saw our Lord praising His Father before His followers. There it is said: “before those who fear you will I fulfill my vows” NIV.

From His will flows all the wills that follow.

1.     “The poor will eat and be satisfied”-v. 26a
2.     Those “who seek the LORD will praise him”-v. 26b
3.     “All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD”-v. 27a
4.     “all the families of the nations will bow down before him”-v. 27b
5.     “All the rich of the earth will feast and worship”-v. 29a
6.     “all who go down to the dust will kneel before him”-v. 29b
7.     “Posterity will serve him”-v. 30a
8.     “future generations will be told about the Lord”-v.30b
9.     “They will proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn”-v. 31a

Yesterday has disappeared into today. Time moves forth to the fourth hour of the morn. There are a few more things I want to touch on, but time and weariness forbade me from going on now. How shall I close this portion of devotions? Perhaps with a question: In light of what Christ has done, is doing and will do. In light of what the faithful followers have done, are doing, and will do. What will I do? What will you do? I pray that we will do as the song I just heard said:

Where You go, I go
What You say I say
What You pray I pray
(From Where You Go I Go by Jesus Culture)

To those who have not given their hearts to follow Him where He goes hear this warning and invitation:

“12 "Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

14 "Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. 15 Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

16 "I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star."

 17 The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.
Revelation 22:12-17 NIV

Come, now is the time to worship.
Come, now is the time to give your heart.
Come, just as you are, to worship.
Come, just as you are, before your God.
Come.

One day every tongue will confess
You are God.
One day every knee will bow.
Still the greatest treasure remains for those
Who gladly choose you now.
(From Come, Now Is The Time To Worship by Phillips, Craig, and Dean)

As for me, whether in good times or bad, when others fall away by exceeding abundant afflictions or blessings, may this be my prayer and testimony:

"Bring The Rain"

I can count a million times
People asking me how I
Can praise You with all that I've gone through

The question just amazes me
Can circumstances possibly
Change who I forever am in You

Maybe since my life was changed
Long before these rainy days
It's never really ever crossed my mind

To turn my back on You, oh Lord
My only shelter from the storm
But instead I draw closer through these times

So I pray
Bring me joy, bring me peace
Bring the chance to be free
Bring me anything that brings You glory

And I know there'll be days
When this life brings me pain
But if that's what it takes to praise You
Jesus, bring the rain

I am yours regardless of
The clouds that may loom above
Because You are much greater than my pain

You who made a way for me
By suffering Your destiny
So tell me what’s a little rain

So I pray
Bring me joy, bring me peace
Bring the chance to be free
Bring me anything that brings you glory

And I know there'll be days
When this life brings me pain
But if that's what it takes to praise You
Jesus, bring the rain

Holy, holy, holy, holy, holy, holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Is the Lord God Almighty

And I forever sing
Holy, holy, holy, holy, holy, holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Is the Lord God Almighty

Everybody sing it
Holy, holy, holy, holy, holy, holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Is the Lord God Almighty

You are holy; You are holy
Lord, You are holy
Is the Lord our God
Is the Lord our God Almighty

Everybody sing it
Holy, You are holy
Oh, holy, holy, holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Is the Lord God Almighty

Holy, holy, holy, holy, holy, holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Is the Lord God Almighty
