My God is faithful

My journal entry today is from the eve of a new year. As I read I received comfort. This new year has rushed by. My circumstances have not changed much since I wrote the entry. Even as I write this the time is growing short before I must go to work and I again have not been able to have a quiet time because if the tyranny of the urgent in my life. Tomorrow will be the same with a lifegroup to attend in the morning and Band of Brothers at night. Oh, how I yearn for the quiet waters. How refreshing they will be when I can return to them.

Witness:
It’s New Year's eve when I write this. Nothing out of the norm has changed. I still have to go to work. I still have a cold, which has been with me since September. I still have a lot of debt. My wife still refuses reconciliation. As I prayed before I began, my thoughts began with recognition of this fact, but like the Psalmist moved quickly to the recognition of God’s faithfulness. I ask what song I should begin my worship with. The song Great is Thy Faithfulness began playing in my mind. I knew I had sung that before, during worship time. I don’t usually like to repeat a song, but I felt this was most appropriate at the end of one year and the dawning a new one. My circumstances may not have changed much. Solomon speaks of the vanity of life under the sun. Looking at my circumstances could lead me to despair, yet I choose to look beyond the sun to the Son. I choose not to wallow in the emptiness in my life but seek the Father’s fullness. I choose not to complain but seek the Holy Spirit’s comfort.  I remember this precious promise:

Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
I say to myself, "The Lord is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him."

The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him,
to the one who seeks him;
it is good to wait quietly
for the salvation of the Lord.
Lam 3:22-26 NIV

I recognize His invaluable immutability:

                                                God is not a man, that he should lie,
nor a son of man, that he should change his mind.
Does he speak and then not act?
Does he promise and not fulfill?
Num 23:19 NIV

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Heb 13:8 NIV

I recount His continual comfort:

                                               
My comfort in my suffering is this:
Your promise preserves my life.
Ps 119:50 NIV

And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain with you forever — 
The Spirit of Truth, Whom the world cannot receive (welcome, take to its heart), because it does not see Him or know and recognize Him. But you know and recognize Him, for He lives with you [constantly] and will be in you.
John 14:16-17 AMP

Finally, as I enter this new year, let me remember this confession by the Apostle Paul and make it mine:

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.
